I’m originally from Toronto, Canada and currently live in Bergen County New Jersey. I’ve devoted the past 25 years towards the understanding of modern day disease/illness and the holistic approaches to promote health, healing and wellness.
Beginning with a Masters in Health Sciences (MKin.) and working in the biomedical field, I gained a keen understanding of modern day illness and the various treatments offered through Western Medicine.
It was through a personal debilitating physical injury that I first learned about the healing benefits of Acupuncture and how this safe and natural based medicine could greatly benefit so many others experiencing pain and illness.
With new found passion I obtained a 4-year Masters of Science Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (MSTOM) from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, New York.
I am a Nationally Board Certified Diplomate of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). I am licensed as an Acupuncturist and Herbalist in the State of New Jersey and New York.
I am an active member of The New Jersey Acupuncture Association of Oriental Medicine (NJAAOM), The Acupuncture Society of New York (ASNY), and am certified in Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture and Clean Needle Technique through the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
In addition to my formal clinical training, I’ve been privileged to serve as a practitioner of Acupuncture for specialized populations including our Veterans (VA Hospital, Manhattan NY), as well as under-serviced International communities requiring humanitarian medical care (The Barbara Ford Peace Center, Guatemala.)
My focus is pain management, including orthopedic and musculoskeletal pain, arthritis, joint pain, sports injuries. Other areas of focus include treatment of emotional conditions (depression, anxiety, stress, headaches, insomnia), respiratory disorders, digestive disorders, and women’s health.
My treatment style is Traditional Chinese Medicine, which includes Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Electro Muscular Stimulation (EStim), Cupping, Moxibustion, Tui Na Massage, Gua Sha, External Liniments and Essential Oils.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the philosophy that optimal health exists when your bodies energy and mind are balanced. As a holistic medicine, the factors affecting a balanced state include the physical, mental, lifestyle, diet, environment and others. Through careful listening, observation and inquiry of key questions, a TCM practitioner seeks to understand the root cause of your condition leading to a pattern of diagnosis and an individual treatment plan.
Regardless of the modality of treatment all TCM approaches focus on accessing your body’s own natural energy as a way to re-establish a balanced state and address the main complaint or illness. This is one major difference with Western based medicine which often relies on pharmaceuticals and invasive surgeries as a way of treatment which often have unwanted side effects. While Western medicine approaches are important, particularly with emergency or critical life saving conditions, over prescribed drugs with unwanted side effects can further create imbalances in the body.
